Following the loss of the Y59 service the Council is aware of an alternative service available to residents provided by Erewash Community Transport Ltd. Details are below.
What is Dial-a-Bus? Dial-a-Bus is a transport service, specifically designed for older and/or less able people to do their grocery shopping.
It assists with integrated and independent living within the community and can be used by anyone living in Erewash who is unable to easily access regular public transport services (or for whom, public transport is limited or unavailable) for reasons of age, infirmity or disability.
Where does it operate? The service operates in the following areas: Long Eaton, Sandiacre, Draycott, Breaston, Risley, Sawley, Stanley, Stanley Common, West Hallam, Mapperley Village, Morley, Breadsall, Ockbrook, Borrowash, Little Eaton, Ilkeston, Kirk Hallam, Stanton by Dale and Dale Abbey.
How does it work? In order to use the service, a brief registration process applies which takes a few minutes and costs just £1.00 for life membership. On the day of travel, the driver will come to your door to collect you, assist you to the vehicle and take to a local supermarket where you will have approximately an hour and a half to shop, before returning home again. Our drivers are happy to help carry your shopping to your door.
How much does it cost? In addition to the £1.00 lifetime membership fee, the cost is £5.00 return.
How do I book? You can book your seat up to three weeks in advance by telephoning the office on 0115 930 9134 between 0900 and 1500 – Monday to Friday.
Can I travel in my wheelchair? Yes; we are able to accommodate those wishing to travel in their wheelchair, but we will need the make and model of wheelchair before you travel, so we can assess it can safely be used as a seat in the vehicle. We also ask that all wheelchairs are fitted with a correctly working lap belt.
We regret however, that for safety reasons, we cannot accommodate scooters (pavement vehicles) and some types of electric ‘power’ wheelchairs on our vehicles. A copy of our Wheelchair Policy is available on request.
For safety reasons we ask that bus aisles and exits are not obstructed and that shopping is restricted to two bags per person.
If you would like further information or would like a registration form, please contact us on 0115 930 9134.
